Police: Portable heater leads to fire=

VERNON — Police said a Jan. 16 house fire on County Highway 515 was caused by a portable heater, which was being used to defrost pipes.

Police said the resident called 911 at about 9 a.m. to report the fire and police closed County Highway 515 from Breakneck Road to Main Street for more than an hour. Firefighters from Vernon, McAfee, Highland Lakes and Warwick battled the fire.
