Herbert Baker, a gentleman in every way, has entered Heaven’s Gates and was reunited with his loving wife and family on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015. Born on April 5, 1922, in West New York, N.J., to Charles Otto Baker and Albertina Yeager Baker, although he moved to Lake Neepaulin in 1972 from Franklin, N.J., he considered his old stomping grounds to be the Beaver Lake section of Stockholm, N.J.

Herb honorably served in the United States Army during WWII with the Railway Operating Battalion in the CBI. He had many interesting stories from those days, one in particular was about the baby elephant they had saved and adopted. Mr. Baker was employed by the Mahwah Ford Plant until his retirement. During his employment with them, he had them build him a yellow-and-black 1956 Ford Sun Liner convertible with the Police Interceptor engine and 2-four barrel carburetors that was the topic of his racing stories.

Herb is survived by his sons, Herbert and grandsons, Tanner and Dakota, Donald and his wife, Lynette, and granddaughter, Nikki, Richard and his husband, Richard Craven. Beloved brother-in-law to Marian Baker and Edey Werman. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that will miss his funny stories, silly faces and fishing hat. Mr. Baker had a special place in his heart for his neighbors, the Gonnoud family that he considered to be like family.

Honoring his wishes, there will be a private cremation. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2015. at Noon at Suzie’s House, 21 Cemetery Road, Branchville, N.J. Donations in Herb’s memory can be made to Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery, NNJVMC, P.O. Box 463, Vernon, NJ 07462.
