Girl Scouts do good deeds

Girl Scout Troop 70994 from the High Point Service Unit in Wantage, N.J. recently assisted GAIT Therapeutic Riding Center with its bake sale held at the Pocono Environmental Center’s annual Harvest Festival in Dingman’s Ferry, Pa.

As a local organization serving the community, GAIT TRC was invited to attend the event to educate the public about the services it provides to children and adults with special needs.

Nine girl scouts helped man the GAIT table and provided many of the baked goods for the sale. Troop members walked around the festival promoting the sale and telling visitors about GAIT’s mission, “To improve the quality of life of children and adults with special needs through equine-facilitated activities and therapies resulting in a more independent life in society.”

With the help of the scouts, GAIT was able to raise $300, which is enough for one rider for one session. GAIT is very grateful to the scouts for their assistance.

“We could not have raised so much for our non-profit organization without the dedication of the girl scouts,” said Martha Dubensky, Founder and Executive Director of GAIT TRC.

Troop 70994 has supported GAIT several times over the past year. The scouts have helped care for the horses GAIT employs for therapeutic riding and other activities. These girls are not afraid to get their hands dirty. They have created games and activities for the educational room, cleaned tack and even mucked stalls and pastures.

Jennifer Paolucci states that the scouts made a unanimous decision to return to GAIT even after completing their hours for their Bronze Award.
