Sussex Elks hosts fundraiser for special needs kids

The Sussex Elks Lodge No. 2288 offered something for everyone on Saturday with the proceeds helping to support their mission to serve children with special needs.

Roughly 20 vendors offered their wares and services.

The highlight of the afternoon was Sparta resident Samantha LeValley, who led about 10 ladies through a series of Zumba aerobic exercises. Four years ago, and weighing nearly 250 pounds, LeValley took up the fitness program, lost 100 pounds, and now teaches classes six days each week at locations in Franklin and Lake Hopatcong.

Class locations include Dream Xtreme Dance, the Franklin American Legion, and Black Bear Fitness. Classes are available every day except on Thursday.

According to LeValley, her students range in age from 14 to 80 and all are welcome.

The Sussex Elks celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. The group has more than 100 members including both men and women. The exalted ruler this year is Jesse Morgan.
