Sparta vet to participate in Yukon Quest

| 08 Jan 2015 | 03:43

Sparta native Lori Walker, DVM of Veterinary House Calls and VETdispatch will be one of the trail veterinarians this February at The Yukon Quest.

Like its more famous counterpart, The Iditerod, The Yukon Quest is a 1,000-mile sled dog race. Said to be even more challenging conditions and more grueling than The Iditerod, The Yukon Quest goes from Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory of Canada to Fairbanks, Alaska. The 27 mushers and their sled dog teams are expected to take from 10 to 15 days to complete the journey over some of the harshest conditions on the planet.

Walker and the other trail veterinarians will be stationed at checkpoints along the trail to ensure the well-being of the canine athletes.
