Carter Volz, age 80, was born on Dec. 14, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY. Carter was a graduate of Gilman School in Baltimore, Maryland, Yale University, New Haven Conn., and New York University, Graduate School of Business Administration. After 2 years in the U. S. Army Combat Engineers in Europe, he was employed by Chemical Bank, Maryland National Bank, Eastern Airlines, ITT and American Express in various jobs of increasing responsibility. When a vice president of AmexCo in 1974, he was attacked in NYC and left for dead. His recovery from the attack took 21 years, ending his business career and beginning his career as psychotherapist and Reiki Master. In this second career, he became certified as an Ericksonian Hypnotherapist, as a hypnosis instructor for the National Guild of Hypnotists and as a master practitioner of NLP. He was also a member of the Carl Jung Foundation for Psychotherapy for many years. During his second career he had the privilege of serving more than 1,000 clients and students in Sussex County to whom he owed his great respect and thanks. He taught Reiki I, II, and III holistic energy healing at VOTEC and SCCC for more than 15 years. As a follow on to these classes he apprenticed 29 students to their Reiki Mastership. He was the author of four books: Grieving our Losses and Accepting our Fears, Jungian Dream Analysis and Improving Dream Recall, Healing Yourself, and the Next Dimension of Reiki Healing. It was a sadness in his life that he was estranged from his own children. This loss was offset by his many many wonderful years with his best friend and significant other, Nancy Malone, and her extended family: David and Laurie Jaggers and Kurt and Robin Hansen, and her grandchildren, Jessica and Alexandra Hansen. Carter’s learning and teaching will continue in his new home on the Master Plane, where they can answer all of his questions and he can dialogue to his heart’s content. A celebration of life offered by Carter’s family and friends will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 at the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex.
