The Sussex Middle School hosted a cyber bullying and social media program on Nov. 18.

Special Agent David Fallon of Homeland Security, and Patrice Reilly from the Center for Prevention and Counseling provided parents and students with information regarding cyber bullying, as well as strategies to prevent the misuse of technology.

Parents and students were addressed separately to customize the approach to each group and allow for a more open exchange of facts and concerns. Both Fallon and Reilly discussed the serious effects of cyberbullying and the function of common apps and how to avoid their misuse. In addition, Fallon also provided parents with the names of online programs to help them keep track of their children’s activities and interactions on the internet.

The intention of this program was to educate parents and students on the repercussions of online activities. The presentation provided beneficial insight into cyber bullying and the dangers of the misuse of technology.
