Vernon Historical Society sponsors gift fair

Beautiful handmade jewelry, cash for gold and silver, free antique appraisals, Origami Christmas Tree Ornaments, baked goods, books, and more will be featured on sale at the Holiday Gift Fair and Social on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 13 and 14. from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day at the society headquarters, 293 Route 94 in Vernon.

The event will feature the handmade jewelry of Phyllis Pfeifer of The Jeweled Pussycat, handbags and wallets, watches, cash for gold and silver, antique appraisals, and many more items.

Twelve-year-old Ben Dupont will demonstrate his origami talents and sell his origami Christmas tree ornaments for just $1 each. Ben has his own business online on Etsy, called “Origami Orchard.”

A new vendor this year is American Gold and Diamond buyers, who will appraise and/or buy all forms of precious metals, gold, silver, platinum, silverware sets, tea sets, holloware, coins, and antiques. The first three items will be appraised for free. Each additional item will be appraised for $5. People selling their items will need photo IDs. American Gold and Diamond, which is bonded and insured, buys all types of precious metals in all forms and also buys diamonds. Interested sellers should bring documentation for diamonds, if available. Interested people may email in advance photographs of their antique items they would like to have appraised.

Amare Consignment Boutique will sell new handbags and wallets, new watches at 50 percent off retail prices, scarfs, candles, and other gift items. Amare will give 15 percent discounts off entire purchasers for Historical Society members with their membership cards.

Back again for the fourth straight year is the popular handmade jewelry by Phyllis Pfiefer, who make sterling and gemstone jewelry. Some of her jewelry can be seen at thejeweledpussycat.com.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of merchandise will go to the Historical Society for the continuation of its many programs for the community and the public at large.

The society will be sell history books and many other items that can be used as holiday gifts and stocking stuffers. There also will be a bake sale with home-baked goods and lots of cookies to take home for the holidays. There will be free refreshments and holiday music.

The event is free and open to the public.
