    John J. Herman, Sr. “AJ’s,” age 74 , passed away on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at home while surrounded by his loving family. Born in New York City, Mr. Herman had lived in Wyckoff before moving to Sussex County in 1970, where he owned and operated AJ’s Sunoco in Wantage for 20 years. After his retirement in 2000, Mr. Herman moved to Hudson, Fla., and just recently came back to New Jersey. He was a former member of the Sussex Kiwanis Club, was an avid golfer and enjoyed boating and flying his own aviation planes. Mr. Herman was predeceased by his son, Allen Herman in 2011; his daughter, Christina Mahzamani in 2014; his father, John J. Herman; his brother, Edward Herman; and his sister, Mary Herman. He is survived by his wife, Aida, of Wantage; two sons, John Herman and his wife, Laurie, of Port Jervis, N.Y., and Russell Herman and his wife, Jennifer, of Otisville, N.Y.; his daughters, Aida H. Dunn and her husband, Ed, of Wantage and Kaylie Herman of Hudson, Fla.; his mother, Josephine Herman of Queens, N.Y.; his daughter-in-law, Colleen Herman of Wantage; his son-in-law, Frank Mahzamani of Brandon, Fla.,; his sister, Josephine Herman of Queens, N.Y.; his 11 grandchildren, Michelle, Melissa, Samantha, Jessica, Kirsten, Selena, Nicole, Walker, Amber, Aidan, and Ashton; and 3 great grandchildren, Madison, Sawyer, and Christopher Allen. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014 at the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex. Mass of Christian burial will immediately follow at 10 a.m. at St. Monica R.C. Church in Sussex. Interment will be at North Hardyston Cemetery.
