About 50 veterans and their family members came out on Tuesday for a solemn ceremony held in front of Wallkill Valley Memorial Post 8441 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

For those who came hot coffee and bagels were available as were frozen quart container of delicious soups created by VFW Sgt. of the Guard Jim Davis.

The post’s efforts to stay afloat continue and Tuesday during a veterans ceremony at Walnut Ridge Primary School the post received a pleasant surprise. Veterans and VFW members Joe Rodgers of Highland Lakes and Bob Constantine of Vernon accepted an artistic treasure along with a $500 check donated on behalf of the students, faculty, and staff of Walnut Ridge Primary School.

Following the ceremony, members of the VFW returned to their continuing stations in the middle of Route 94 near the Vernon town center. Their fundraising efforts to stay in their home of nearly 50 years continues.
