Send Garrett a message by electing Cho

On November 4, voters in New Jersey's Fifth Congressional District will choose their Congressional representative. Evidently, the incumbent Rep. Scott Garrett long ago chose his constituency.

Since first being elected in 2002, Scott Garrett has raked in more than $8 million in political contributions, primarily from securities and investment firms, insurance companies, and banks. As a member of the powerful House Financial Services Committee, Garrett is expected to deliver results for his wealthy corporate benefactors. And deliver he has, opposing even modest common-sense reforms against Wall Street abuses. In return for his efforts, this classic Washington insider has amassed a campaign war chest of nearly $3 million while boosting his personal net worth by 130 percent since 2004. Nice work if you can get it.

Sadly, Rep. Garrett apparently sees no need to represent the interests of the ordinary citizen, having staunchly opposed any increase in the current poverty-level minimum wage while favoring tax cuts for millionaires and the privatization of our Social Security system. What better way to reward his Wall Street patrons than to hand them our $2 trillion Social Security retirement trust fund?

Let's remind Scott Garrett who his real constituency is. Let's elect Roy Cho on November 4.
