Sorcerer's apprentice Zachary Smolder, 13, thrilled the young children with his fox named Robbie.
With Scott Smolder guiding these sorcerer apprentices, everyone got a chance to be a mad scientist. Smolder provided the children with excerpts from his program "Adventures in Science." He is also a science teacher at Pompton Plains High School.

VERNON — Halloween is always a favorite occasion for the children of Barry Lakes, the lake community that sits atop Wawayanda Mountain in the northeast corner of Vernon.
In addition to games, a mad scientist or two, and face painting, a parade was also featured as the best costumes were chosen. This year’s winners for best costumes in their categories were Morgan Mulvaney, Riley DeGrezia, and Domenic DeCroce.
Recreation director Mary Ferreri and her many helpers decorated the clubhouse to the max and prepared a wonderful selection of tasty treats as well.
