The Skylands Group — N.J. Sierra Club Chapter — will host a screening of the documentary film, "Blue Gold: World Water Wars" on Tuesday, Nov. 11 from 7-8:30 p.m. at 1 W. Nelston St. in Newton.

"Blue Gold" reveals how humans in every corner of the world are polluting, diverting, pumping, and wasting a limited supply of fresh water as population and technology grows. The rampant overdevelopment of agriculture, housing, and industry increase the demands for fresh water well beyond the finite supply, resulting in increasing desertification of the earth.

The film shows how corporate giants have privatized the water supply of many developing countries for profit, and how governments have used water for economic and political gain, setting the stage for future world water wars.

Following the film, Skylands Group Chairwoman Susan Williams will engage the audience in a discussion of issues around loss of public ownership of water systems. Williams has been closely following developments in Sussex Borough, where Aqua New Jersey is attempting to purchase the borough's water utility.
