Thank you to turkey dinner supporters

On Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, the Harvest House Board of Directors held our 14th Turkey Dinner in support of the Harvest House soup kitchen in Sussex Borough.

We are grateful to the many people who cooked the turkeys (all 47 of them), mashed potatoes (205 lbs) and stuffing (17 pans) and to DECA and all those who made the delicious desserts. There were 307 meals served (eat-in and take-out) a total of $4,014.80, which included the sale of 50/50 tickets donations from the dinner and at the ShopRite and A&P stores. Our winner was America Silva, $985, of which she donated $100 back to Harvest House. Thank you to all the DECA students under the direction of Mrs. Shannon Flannery from Vernon High School who served the dinners to the guests. They were very helpful in making sure everyone had their dinners and drinks. Some kind guest even left a tip under their drink cups.

Once again, Kuperus Garden Center in Sussex donated the mums, also to the Vernon High School, who allows us the use of the cafeteria for this yearly event, Mike and Janet of the Copy Center for providing the signs, our local churches, Mrs. Sue Nadeau, VTHS Family & Consumer Sciences teacher & Mr. Robert Kirchmer, retired VTHS teacher for providing time and energy roasting and carving the turkeys, to the kitchen staff who helps to keep everything moving smoothly and the board members, and other volunteers who worked tirelessly in the kitchen and dining area not only this year but for the past 14 years.

Harvest House currently serves more than 14,000 meals a year.

We would like to thank all the many members of the community, not just in Vernon but in the neighboring towns, who responded to our plea from the dinner and the New Jersey Herald and Aim papers who published the article that helped to generate funds to help keep Harvest House operating. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Times are very difficult now and we appreciate all that is being done to help Harvest House stay open.

Anyone who would like to donate to Harvest House should send their tax deductible contribution to PO Box 374, Glenwood, NJ 07418. We are also in need of gift cards to buy meat, chicken and all perishables. There is no amount too small.
