Dryer smoke leads to home evacuation in Highland Lakes section of Vernon

A Highland Lakes resident had a close call on Monday when her clothes dryer began smoking and making strange popping and crackling sounds.

Robin Gales of 206 Manaticut Road, her three dogs and two cats escaped the home unharmed.

The Highland Lakes, Vernon and McAfee fire departments responded to the home, along with the Vernon Township Police Dept. The malfunctioning dryer was moved from inside the home and onto the house's front walk. Charred clothing was on the ground next to the machine.
