— Sussex County Community College and the Newton Police Department signed a memorandum of understanding last week to strengthen their relationship and help ensure coordination of efforts for campus safety, according to a college news release.

An MOU is an agreement that outlines the intent and responsibilities of each party involved.

Last fall, SCCC hired a new Director of Campus Security John Scully, who has worked to upgrade and enforce security planning and preparedness on campus.

The MOU describes the expectations of the Newton Police and college's security team for any type of emergency.

“We look forward to continuing to work with the Sussex County Community College to maintain its safe and secure campus," Newton Poice Chief Michael S. Richards said. "This MOU formalizes our long-standing relationship and forms a great foundation to further enhance cooperation, communication and public safety effectiveness.”
