With the golf season winding down Members of the Crystal Springs Golf Resort gathered at the Wild Turkey Golf Club on Wednesday, Sept. 24, to compete in the 6th Member Appreciation Tournament and the last opportunity to qualify for the end of the year championship scheduled to be contested on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at New Jersey’s #1 Public Golf Course, the Ballyowen Golf Club.

The top performers of the day were the team of Bret Trenkmann and Bruce Hinchman who carded the best score of the day, a 9 under par 62. The second-place team of Rick Thompson and Don Hemberger were just 2 strokes back with a 7-under par 64.

The team of Rich Volpe and Tom Smith shot a 3-under par 68 to capture the Senior Division crown with Bob Mosier and Ed Lemire coming in a close second with a 2-under-par 69. The Lady’s Division champions were Mary Lou Niccoletti and Joan Huffine who scored a 2-over par 73 with the Couples Division team of Demetrio Cutri and Leslie Cutri taking the win with a 1-under par 70.

Prizes were also awarded for the best performers in three skill competitions. Bruce Hincman won closest to the pin on hole No. 7 with his tee shot coming to rest just 23” from the pin, while Jonathan Rose’s 4’9” tee shot was close enough to win closest to the pin on hole No. 14. Lady’s long drive honors went to Joan Huffine and Fred Staniewicz’s tee shot was long enough to outdistance the other male golfers. A new competition was added to this month’s event, closest to the pin on the second shot to hole No. 1, which was won by Mark Kurtz whose approach shot came to rest just 3’2” from the hole. Hincman became a 3-time prize winner on the day by capturing the win in the putting contest with a putt that ended up just 21” from the hole.

All winners were rewarded for their performance by qualifying for the end of year Crystal Springs Member Appreciation Championship to be held in October and with prizes that included $100 gift cards and free rounds of golf for the Division champs.
