St. Thomas to host blessing of animals

VERNON — St. Thomas Episcopal Church will host a blessing of the animals at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4.

The annual event commemorates the Feast of Francis of Assisi, who is reported to have preached to birds and tamed wild animals with his words.

At St. Thomas’ service, toy animals accompanied by a child, and photos of beloved pets who have died are welcome, in place of the real thing. There will be plenty of room for trailers and parking at the main church.

Treats for both animals and humans will be available.
