Kenneth Columbus, 48, of New Rochelle, N.Y., was charged with driving while intoxicated and careless driving aafter Vernon police responded to the area of Minerals Resort for a report of a motor vehicle accident and electrical wires down.

Upon arrival, police said they discovered powerlines were hanging low over Route 94 and the roadway needed to be shut down. The roadway was shut down for five hours to take care of the electrical wires.

No injuries were reported.
