The Vernon Township Council approved several resolutions to make various road improvements to Breakneck Road, Upper Plateau and Murphy Court, and to continue on to Phase III and Phase IV of the Water Main replacement project, along Woodland Drive, Susan Court, Carr Lane and Christine Place.

Breakneck Road is in need of improvements and traffic stripping. A contract to be awarded to Tilcon New York, Inc. Upper Plateau and Murphy Court are in need of resurfacing, to be completed by Denville Line Painting, Inc.

Aqua New Jersey, Inc., will continue with the next phases of the Water Main replacement. Major improvements and replacement were needed after damages caused by a previous contractor.

The projects will be funded through the Morris County Co-Op Contracts 6 and 36.

“Instead of bidding 1 large contract to 1 contractor we broke it down to get better bids from several vendors.” Township Engineer Cory Stoner said.

The projects are currently under review by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) and according to Stoner are expected to be approved.

“Once we have have DOT approval in hand we’re going to award those contracts.” said Stoner.

Traffic will be affected, but, will be directed by Vernon Township Police, rather than contractor flagmen.

“It is very important for traffic safety to use policemen.” Stoner said.
