Special Education Parent Advisory Groups are required for all school districts in New Jersey. The purpose of the group is to provide opportunities for parents and community members to offer input to their districts on critical issues relating to the student population. The group also has the support of Child & Family Resources, where O'Brien is employed. Child & Family Resources (CFR) is a non-profit organization that focuses on children. CFR creates and implements programs and services that support the development of children and their families by engaging and partnering with the community in their efforts to enhance the lives of children.

Many children and families worry about the unknown and perceived obstacles which leaves them feeling alone and unsure. The goal of the committee is to ensure that every family in the community knows they are not alone with their concern or worry and that there are resources available to assist them both in and out of school. It is a parent-led organization aligned with the Child Study Team fostering communication and involvement to ensure the best education for every child in our school district. The SEPAG is open to every family in the school district.
