Friends of Library plan World War I event

    The Friends of the Library, Dorothy E. Henry Branch, will feature two programs in honor of the 100th anniversary of the start of World War II.

    The first program will be on Sunday, Sept. 28, and will include a lecture on the events leading up to the outbreak, the war itself, and the aftermath. Helen M. Simpkins will be the speaker. She is a retired educator who worked in the Vernon Township Public School System.

    Simpkins taught history and was the History Department chairwoman at Vernon Township High School. She also was the district coordinator of Social Studies, World Languages and the school-wide Enrichment Program for grades K-12.

    The event will be held in the community room of the Library on Route 94 in Vernon at 3 p.m. Admission is free with a reception to follow.

    This program is well suited for ages teen through adult.
