Ignaz Marakovits

    Ignaz Marakovits, 85 years, passed away at his residence on Sunday August 17, 2014. Born in Punitz, Austria, he was the son of the late Ignaz and Anna (nee Kertelits) Marakovits. Since 1986 he has been a resident of Vernon Twp. and prior to that had resided in Queens, N.Y.

    Ignaz always loved working with wood as a craftsman and building things. He was employed for 35 years with Service Wagon Repair Company located in New York, N.Y., retiring in 1994. Ignaz was a parishioner at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church in Highland Lakes. In his spare time, he enjoyed tending to his garden and was always giving away to his neighbors and friends the vegetables and flowers he would grow. He loved music and in his younger years in Austria he played the trumpet, trombone, and button accordion with his brothers in a band. He also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.

    In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years Martha Marakovits (2011), and many of his siblings Agnes, Stefan, Stefanie, Julia, Mary, Ida, Frank and Teresia. He is survived by his sons Harold Marakovits of Highland Lakes, and Steven Marakovits and his wife Kim of Glendale, N.Y., along with many nieces and nephews.

    Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral 10 a.m. on Wednesday Aug. 20, 2014, at the Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home 241 Rt. 94 Vernon, NJ (for gps directions use 1 Vanderhoof Court Vernon, NJ). Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 184 Breakneck Road, Highland Lakes, NJ. Interment to follow at Glenwood Cemetery Vernon Twp. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Aug. 19 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory would be preferred and may be made to: Our Lady of Fatima R.C.
