    Donald D. McCann, 85, died Tuesday Aug. 19, 2014 at his home in the Lake Neepaulin section of Wantage. Mr. McCann, son of the late Earl and Jenny (Lateer), McCann was born in Hamburg on March 14, 1929. Mr. McCann resided in Vernon Twp. for most of his life, moving to Buffalo Junction, Va., in 2002. In 2009, Mr. McCann returned to the area to reside in Lake Neepaulin.

    Mr. McCann was produce manager of Acme Markets in Newton, retiring in 1991 after 39 years with the store. He served with the NJ National Guard for 16 years.

    He was a 50-year member and past master of the former Samaritan Masonic Lodge No. 98 F&AM of Hardyston as well as a 32nd degree Mason Valley of Paterson. Mr. McCann was a 30-year member and past president of Pochuck Valley Fire Dept. and was a member of the NJ State Fire Police for 25 years.

    He served as Boy Scouts of America district commissioner of the Morris-Sussex Council and was holder of the Scouting Silver Beaver.

    Mr. McCann was a member of the Sussex United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. He loved spending time with his family, cat Kobi and dog, Susie. He also enjoyed woodworking.

    Mr. McCann was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn J. McCann, in 2006, son, Stephen B. McCann in 1994, brothers, Melvin, Gerald and Virgil McCann and sister Bernice Clouse. He is survived by his children, Donna Fancher of Hamburg and Thomas McCann and his wife, Peggy, of Canadensis, Pa.; 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be held Saturday August 23, 2014 10 a.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home 27 Third St. Sussex. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
