Friends of High Point State Park host Bait and Boat Festival

SUSSEX — The Friends of High Point State Park are sponsoring their annual Bait and Boat Festival on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 1 to 6:30 p.m. at High Point State Park.

Friends of H.P.S.P. will gather on the beach at Lake Marcia to say goodbye to summer with a fun-filled day of fishing and boating.

This special event is the one day of the year that boats are allowed on Lake Marcia. Participants may borrow one of the Friends' kayaks or canoes for a short paddle or bring their own non-motorized boat and spend the day exploring.

Afternoon activities include a boat race, fishing contest, nature paddle, and crafts. An early evening campfire on the beach with s'mores will conclude the festivities.

The event is free, but donations are appreciated. All persons fishing, age 16 or older, must have and display a valid NJ State fishing license. Bring own fishing equipment. All boaters must wear a PFD while on the lake.

Participants bringing their own non-motorized boats must stop by the beach for instructions before putting boats in the water. Event rain date is Sunday, Sept. 7.
