Alice E. Slockbower

Alice E. Slockbower, 99, of Unionville, N.Y. died on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014 at her residence while surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 23, 1915 to the late John A. “Hipe” Cosh and Elizabeth Williams in Johnsons, N.Y., Slockbower had lived in the Unionville and Westtown areas all of her life.

She had farmed with her late husband, Earl Slockbower until 1960 and then she opened the Side Road Pantry in 1961 in Unionville. After closing the Side Road Pantry in 1973, Slockbower worked as a baker for her daughters until she retired in 2000.

She was predeceased by her husband, Earl; her daughter, Janice Slockbower; her grandson, James Slockbower; her brothers, Alfred Cosh, Thomas Cosh, Sherwood Cosh, and James Cosh; her sister, Helen Jacobs; her son-in-law, Alden Lain; and her daughter-in-law, Yvonne Slockbower.

Slockbower is survived by her two sons, John A. Slockbower of Unionville and Richard E. Slockbower and his wife, Victoria of Circleville, N.Y.; her five daughters, Ann Silling of Unionville, Betty Slockbower of Unionville, Nancy Lain of Wantage, N.J., Peggy Baker and her husband Orie of Cooperstown, N.Y., and Diane Suhocki and her husband Dennis of Richfield Spring, N.Y.; her brother, Arthur Cosh and his wife Elizabeth of Unionville; her sisters, Anna Zeman of Waunakee, Wis. and Marie Shea of Westtown, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14 at the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex. Interment will immediately follow at Unionville Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects to the family on Wednesday, Aug. 13 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
