Syvert 'Sig' Dalane

    Syvert “Sig” Dalane, age 94, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2014 at Newton Medical Center. Born in Iveland, Norway, to the late Syvert and Klara Dalane, he had emigrated to the United States in April 1928 to Brooklyn, New York. Mr. Dalane graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1937 and received his Associate Degree in Engineering from Pratt Institute in 1940. He married Evelyn Buckstad and moved to the Packanack Lake section of Wayne in 1953 and was active in Packanack Lake politics. He was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 104. He married his second wife, Evelyn in 1966 and shortly after moved back to live in Packanack Lake. He then served as president and was very active in the Packanack Golf Club, and was active in the Packanack Community Church and sang in the choir. He had been employed by Bell Labs in Whippany in the Engineering Department from 1940 to 1982. Mr. Dalane enjoyed traveling and especially was proud of his 17 trips to Hawaii and 15 trips to Norway. He moved to Vernon in 2001 and resided with his son, Stephen, and his daughter-in-law, Barbara. He was predeceased by his second wife, Evelyn, in 2010 and his two brothers, Rolf and Kristen. He is survived by his daughter, Carole Wolfgang of Florida; his son, Stephen and his wife Barbara of Vernon; his step-daughters, Judy Schwager and her, husband, Robert of Oxford, New York, and Carol Kindt of Sequim, Washington; his grandchildren, Dwight Walker, Erica Walker, Dr. Scott Dalane and his wife Dr. Lindsey Webb Dalane, Kari Dalane, Sherry Klemushin, Ashley Kindt, Jeremy Lehmer and his wife, Babbett, Dayna Miller and her husband Brent, Faryn Root and her husband, Michael, David Lehmer and his wife Jayna, and Ethan Lehmer; two great-grandchildren; his first wife, Evelyn Buckstead DeMarco of Daytona Beach, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex. Friends may pay their respects to the family prior to the service from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
