Swim, cycle, run

Triathletes from around the world came to swim, cycle and run at the Fifth Annual Pass It Along Triathlon at Lake Mohawk on Saturday, July 26. The Lake Mohawk Country Club in Sparta was the start and end point of the event.

Triathletes from around the world came to Sussex County to push themselves to the limit. Some were repeat competitors to the event while others were first timers. A diverse roster of nationalities male and female took on the scenic but challenging course. North America from coast to coast, Australia and Scandinavia were among the geographical areas triathletes hailed from. The triathlon consists of a half mile swim followed by a 10.8 mile bike ride and ends in a 3.1 mile run.

Triathlete Jim Smith, 41, of Washington Crossing, Pa. finished in first place overall and in the male masters category with a time of 1:06:11.52 This is the second year in a row he has finished first. Shannon Jenkins, 36, of Hamburg, N.J. was the first female to finish the triathlon with an overall time of 1:15:42.03.
