    July 23
    A bear entered a home at 519 Grandview Drive and was found after the resident woke up and found it in the kitchen.

    Police said the bear went up onto the deck and broke the window screen and entered the kitchen. As the bear entered its paw turned the sink water on and flooded the countertop. The bear tore through the food in the kitchen cabinets and left once the homeowner began screaming.

    The bear department prior to police arrival. New Jersey Fish and Game were notified.

    July 25
    Daniel Elston, 45, of Highland Lakes was charged with criminal mischief and criminal restraint and Melissa Dougherty, 21, of Highland Lakes was charged with aggravated assault after police responded to 32 Cohocton Road for a report of fighting in the street.

    Police said they found a female Highland Lakes resident, 36, with facial injuries and her car had been damaged.

    Elston and Dougherty were processed and released on their own recognizance.

    July 27
    Gabriel Sayers, 20, of the Bronx, was charged with entering Kites Bar after previously being denied entry.

    Police said Sayers attempted to gain entry into the bar and was asked to leave. Police said a security guard saw him in the bar a short time later and called the police. According to police, Sayers said after being denied entry, he left, borrowed a 21-year-old friend's identification and snuck in through a back stairwell.

    He was transported to the Vernon Township Police Department and was issued a summons without incident.
