St. Francis de Sales Parish in Vernon held its fourth annual Vacation Bible School during the week of July 18.

There were 90 young participants and dozens of teen volunteers joining in on the fun. Activities for the younger group included music and stories that taught the children about the joyful meaning of God’s love.

This year’s program also had a segment called, “Looking Beyond,” which was a program designed for middle school-aged youth. “Looking Beyond” ran parallel to the traditional VBS program held for the younger children. The older children in the group participated in more detailed and challenging activities, and also took part in lessons that focused on service, such as assisting at the parish’s food pantry. The group learned that people are called to be the hands of Christ in this world, and that everyone has something to share with those who are less fortunate.

The Vacation Bible School Program concluded on Friday afternoon with a closing performance of the songs that the children learned throughout the week, with percussion provided by the middle school group.
