A deluge of rain did not deter the dedicated runners and walkers who participated in the tenth annual Lawyers for Kids 5K Run event on Thursday, July 10, at Ginty Field on Woodland Avenue in Morristown.

The run is a partnership between the Morris County Bar Foundation and Court Appointed Special Advocates of Morris and Sussex Counties (CASA).

CASA is a nonprofit organization that recruits, trains and supervises volunteers who speak up in court for the best interests of children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect.

The Morris County Bar Association is a professional association of attorneys and members of the judiciary who live in and/or practice law in Morris County. The Morris County Bar Foundation, the charitable affiliate of the Morris County Bar Association, is directly involved in programs for the benefit of the legal community and the community-at-large.

At times, event volunteers huddled under small tents to escape the downpour and there was not a dry shirt in sight by the end of the evening. However, 243 runners actually participated and crossed the finish line.

The Honorable Michael Wright sang America the Beautiful, and the Honorable Thomas Weisenbeck signaled runners to start.

The total registration of runners, walkers and children for the kids gallop was 526.

The Morris County Bar Foundation has supported CASA for over ten years.

"They are a group of lawyers dedicated to giving back to the community," said CASA Executive Director Dr. Lisa Barsky Firkser.
