Internet forums shouldn't be censored

An internet forum about Vernon offers a glimpse into current events. There is lively debate with differing opinions and the occasional fact. What surprised me, however, was that postings could just vanish. Not deleted because they were inappropriate, but gone because some self-appointed censor didn't like them. "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." These words expound the principle of freedom of speech. Unfortunately, there are those in Vernon who don't believe in the Constitution.

A whole day's conversation — Poof, Gone. Someone's facts on Camp Sussex — Poof. Gone. I tried more than six times to post the following: "My concern is half the debate will disappear due to Vernon's own Glavlit which likes to sanitize history [lookup Stalin, Soviets]. I love history and have been a member of the Vernon Historical Society for 25 years. One should be able to read these postings and get a sense of what was happening. Any suggestions on how to stop the censorship?" This message keeps getting deleted.

The postings in themselves aren't of great importance. Some are very funny, some show great insight. They are most important because they are someone's thoughts. NO ONE has the right to silence them. Yes, I will work with the forum administrator and explore other avenues, but it is very annoying that in this great country, one has to put up with such behavior.
