Free trainings and activities for families with children with disabilities

    The Association for Special Children and Families (ASCF), a community parent resource center for families who have children with special learning and developmental disabilities, is offering free trainings for parents, caregivers and others. ASCF is a non-profit organization serving children and families in Passaic, Sussex and Morris counties.

    Upcoming events
    On Wednesday, July 16, from noon to 2 p.m., "Binder Workshop: Organizing Your Child's Record's and Conquering the Paper Monster" will teach parents what school paperwork they need to save and how to organize it for easy access when needed at meetings. A light lunch will be served or you can bring your own. It will be held at Family Partners, 67 Spring Street, Newton, N.J. Call 973-940-3194 to register ASAP.

    Parents are invited to join the ASCF Teleconference, "How To Make Sure Your Special Child Is Included' on Thursday, July 24, from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants will have an overview of the IEP process and the legal requirements to make sure their children are included based on their individualized needs. They can listen from their phone in their homes or even at the beach. Call 973-728-8744 to register and find out how to access the teleconference.

    A free fun family event is Camp Hope Day for children with special needs, siblings and families. It will be an all day event on Thursday, Aug. 12 at Camp Hope, 1792 Union Valley road in West Milford. Lots of fun activities and lunch are provided. It is sponsored by Passaic County Camp Hope Commission. Families must sign up by Aug. 1. Call ASCF at 973-728-8744.
