VERNON — The GFWC Vernon Township Woman’s Club sponsored Briana D’Angelo, a Vernon Township High School student, to attend the 68th Annual Girls Career Institute (GCI) at Douglass Residential Campus at Rutgers University in New Brunswick from June 9-12.

Sponsored by the NJ State Federation of Women’s Clubs, GCI affords high school juniors a unique opportunity to experience college life and learn about various career options from women who have gained success and prominence in their chosen fields. The Vernon Township Woman’s Club selects a delegate each year on the basis of interest, community service and participation in school activities.

Along with 175 girls from all over the state, D’Angelo sampled college life by attending lectures and workshops, living in a dorm and eating in the cafeteria. She spent time networking and socializing with other GCI participants and enjoying organized activities such as swimming, skit presentations and craft projects. Many of the girls that attend GCI develop life-long friendships with other participants.

The Vernon Township Woman’s Club meets monthly from September through June at the Vernon Senior Citizens Center. The Club is a member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs which was founded in 1894 and is headquartered on the Douglass Campus.
