I broke a spoke out on a ride. What is the best way to get it out of the way so I can ride home verse walk home.

A broken spoke doesn’t happen often. When it does it can be a question of can I continue or is it bad enough that I should not ride the bike. First spin the wheel. We want to make sure the tire is not hitting the frame. If you have rim brakes make sure the wheel isn’t hitting the brakes and stopping it.

I little rubbing might be ok to finish the ride. If the wheel passes those tests then take the broken spoke and twist it around one of the spokes next to it. It will not hurt the wheel any more then it is.

After the ride stop in the shop and let us replace the spoke. You should never ride a broken wheel long term. It is always cheaper to fix the problem then replace the wheel.
