Vernon Township High School teacher Carol McKay was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and will be one of sixteen NEH Summer Scholars to study in Avignon, France, this July.

The NEH is an independent agency of the U.S. government dedicated to the promotion of excellence in the humanities. NEH grants typically go to cultural institutions, universities, and individual scholars to strengthen teaching and to facilitate original scholarship.

“Madame” McKay, as she is known to her students, will study modern French theater at the renowned Festival d’Avignon. She is employed as a French teacher at both Glen Meadow Middle School and Vernon High School.
