The GFWC Vernon Township Woman’s Club offered a special “Raising Self-Awareness and Practical Self-Defense for Women” presentation on Thursday with Grandmaster Ik Hwan Kim of Kim’s Universal Martial Arts Institute in Lafayette at the Vernon Senior Center on Church Street.

Although hands-on demonstrations were not a major segment of the evening, Kim introduced the ladies to his Ki-Gong Plus program that introduces students to energy training, Tai-Chi, Yoga and dietary advice to maximize physical fitness. Kim’s institute also offers Hapkido, which is similar to Japanese Aikido and Jujitsu as well as Taekwondo, which is similar to Japanese Karate although it tends to explore more aerial techniques.

Grandmaster Kim believes that the martial arts can teach valuable lessons which make you and those around you happier, healthier and more productive.
