Police make arrest in Marketplace Deli robbery

Two people face charged in connection with the robbery of the Marketplace Deli on Feb. 25.

Township police charged Aldo Moro, 24, and a 17-year-old juvenile were charged with first-degree robbery.

The deli was open at the time of the alleged robbery and the owner was threatened with a handgun and it was fired during the course of the incident.

Moro, a previous resident of Chestnut Street in Highland Lakes and a current resident of Union Township was sent to the Sussex Couny Jail. The juvenile was sent to the Morris County Juvenile Detention Center.

Kenneth Schaefer, 41, of Hewit was charged with hindering apprehension and was sent to the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.

The investigation was conducted by the Vernon Detective Bureau, New Jersey State Police, Sussex County Prosecutors Office, West Milford Detective Bureau, Warwick police, Wayne police, Union police.

The investigation also included search warrants executed in Vernon Township and Union Township recovered evidence, police said is expected to result in additional charges.

Police said eveidence revealed the suspects used elaborate makeup and disguises and did extensive planning and research into committing the robbery. The investigation was ongoing.
