The fifth-grade Girl Scout Troop 826 spent more than 25 volunteer hours planning and executing their community event, a Winder Wonder Fair at Sussex Middle School to raise money for Father John's Animal house in Lafayette.

The event earned them their Bronze Award, the highest Girl Scout award a fourth- and fifth-grade troop can earn.

Together ,the girls developed a plan, met with school and Girl Scout administrators and managers, advertised, created and ran games and stations, and coordinated raffles and prizes. Each girl experieced, firnsthand, the benefits of hard work, teamwork and the joy of giving back.

More than 40 participants came out to enjoy a fun-filled evening led by the girls which included many games, activities, prizes (including live fish!), arts and crafts, raffles, music, snacks and more. Through the generosity of the girls and all who came out to support this wonderful cause, over 40 cat/dog food items and more than $300 was raised. The girls will see the true benefit of their efforts when they shop for and deliver the many, many items needed by the shelter they were instrumental in providing.

The Girl Scout Bronze award demonstrates the leadership and planning skills required to follow through with a project that makes a positive difference in the community. They will be awarded their awards at a special ceremony.
