Twenty-eight members of the Vernon Township High School Orchestra travelled to Boston, Mass. during Memorial Day weekend.

The students had two clinics with Bruce Hangen and Tiffany Chang. Bruce Hangen is the orchestra conductor at Boston Conservatory, as well as the Principal Pops Guest Conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra. Chang is an orchestra conductor at Boston University. She has conducted numerous symphony orchestras, youth orchestras, and the North End Music and Performing Arts Center’s opera production of Bizet’s Carmen.

The students worked on a multitude of repertoire, including three movements from Carmen, which they will be rehearsing with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra next November.

“The students gained invaluable performance and rehearsal tips from both of these outstanding conductors," VTHS Orchestra Director Jennifer Krott stated. "It was wonderful to see them learn and apply various concepts, bringing their music to the next level.”

The students also attended concerts, went to a play, and toured historical Boston.
