Gabriel Alfred Yanvary
Gabriel Alfred Yanvary, 85, of Wantage Twp. died at Saint Clares Hospital, Sussex on May 6, 2013.
Born to Gabor and Helen Yanvary in Lorain, Ohio, he was raised in Franklin and then lived in Sparta and the Villages in Lady Lake, Fla. before moving to Wantage Twp. in 1998.
Yanvary left high school and entered the United States Navy during WWII and then graduated from Franklin High School. He then worked for Reaction Motors in Denville, assisting the team of engineers that developed and supported the jet engine which broke the sound barrier, retiring from there in 1968. He then returned to the area and was the owner and operator of the Sears Catalog Store in Sussex as well as the Sussex Dairy Queen before retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Wallkill Valey VFW Post # 8441 and the America Legion. He earned his pilots license and enjoyed building model planes as well flying planes claiming Sussex Airport his home airport. He was a master on the BBQ, an accomplished homebuilder, woodworker and clockmaker and enjoyed trout fishing on the Wallkill.
Yanvary was predeceased by a sister, Lillian Yull.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years of Elizabeth C. Yanvary (nee Romyns) of Wantage Twp.; children William C. Yanvary of Wantage Twp., Patti Van Engelen of Sussex and Robert J. Yanvary and his wife, Mary of Hardwick; grandchildren Kristen L. Balunas and her husband, Drew and Jessica F. Campbell; and great grandchildren Alexander and Dylan Balunas and Christopher J. Campbell.
Funeral service was held at F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, One Main Street, Franklin. Cremation is private.
