Culinary Throwdown fired up

Vernon Township High School will host the Culinary Throwdown for the third year in a row on Wednesday, May 15 at 5:30 p.m.

This “Super Bowl” of cooking competitions, sponsored by Sodexo, will pit four teams of four students against each other. Each team will have a Mentor Chef who will assist in the food preparation and presentation.

All food items will be provided by Sodexo with one Mystery ingredient that must be incorporated into an item that will be served. Each team must prepare a starter course, entrée and dessert.

The teams will have approximately 75 minutes to prepare, name and present their creations to a panel of judges. The teams will be judged on a number of criteria including; cooking techniques, skills and mastery of fundamentals, presentation, creativity, flavor and taste.

Prizes will be awarded to the winning team.

The price of admission is $6; seniors and students are $5. Price of admission include: buffet dinner, entertainment by VTHS Jazz Express, door prizes and 50/50 raffle. All proceeds will go to the Family and Consumer Science Scholarship Fund to be awarded to a deserving graduating FACS student. The scholarship will cover such disciplines as Culinary Arts as well as Fashion and Early Childhood Development.
