Joan C. McMillan

Joan C. McMillan, 71, of Sussex died on April 21, 2013 at her residence in Sussex.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Alva and Mildred McMillan, McMillan had lived in Long Island before moving to New Jersey.

Joan had been a graduate of the University of Mississippi, William Paterson University and New Brunswick Theological Seminary. She had been employed as a kindergarten teacher by the All Saints’ Pre-School in Glen Rock before her retirement. Joan had attended the Sussex Christian Reformed Church.

She was predeceased by her son, Rick A. Shankoff on Oct. 27, 1988.

Joan is survived by her two sons, Rodney Shankoff of Sussex and Gregory Shankoff and his wife Minette of Huntersville, N.C.; her daughter, Cheryl Brands and her husband Allen of Sussex; her brother, Gregory K. McMillan and his wife Carol of Austin, Tex.; her seven grandchildren, Rodney Shankoff, Jr., Joshua Brands and his wife Katie, Erik Brands, Valerie Brands, Jeremy Brands, Colby Brands, and Aaron Shankoff; and her great granddaughter, Kaylee Brands.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 27 at the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
