My Turn with Gregory Williams
Experience will be an asset on Wantage committee
Twenty years ago I began my career as a laborer, then carpenter’s apprentice with a small New Jersey contractor. Years later, I now manage multi-million dollar projects for a national company. The experience I have gained over the years in planning budgets, scheduling, labor management, risk assessment and contract negotiation will be an asset to Wantage Township and its governing body.
Nine years ago, I was appointed to the Wantage Township Board of Recreation Commissioners. As its current president, we have worked to improve Wantage parks and bring many events to Wantage residents. My years serving on the commission have taught me how to navigate local government and work with civic groups to address issues and find solutions.
Over the years, I have been appointed to several "blue ribbon" commissions to address issues facing Wantage. My work in the risk assessment and feasibility of purchasing the Sussex Airport and issues such as the Lake Neepaulin dam were instrumental in my motivation to pursue higher office.
For over ten years I have served in the United States military. My years in the Navy Seabees and Expeditionary Logistics have afforded me an education second to none. I would like to bring these years of planning and leadership experience gained as a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and a lieutenant in our armed services to the Wantage Township Committee. In 2004 I earned a bachelor's of arts degree in political science and graduated with honors in history from William Paterson University. I also hold a master's degree in business administration with a concentration in finance and management from Centenary College, which I earned in 2010.
Over the years I have volunteered as an assistant coach with High Point Football, worked to create a veterans war memorial and I was a former volunteer fireman. Serving my country and community has been a staple within my life and I look forward to tackling the issues that face Wantage.
My concerns with high property tax, a lack of good jobs in the area, preserving open space and the ever-growing demands from Trenton and Washington need to be addressed. I enjoy the political process; it is important we get involved and be a part of the needed change. I truly believe all politics starts at home and I look forward to the challenge.
