    Lawrence E. King, 76, of Wantage died on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, N.Y.

    Born in Eustis, Maine, to the late Charles and Lillian King, he grew up in Maine and had lived in Massachusetts and then Milford, Pa. before moving to Wantage 45 years ago.

    King had served in the United States Army for six years. He graduated with his Bachelors in History, English and Bible from Barrington College in R.I. and Gordon Seminary in Mass. He was an ordained minister through the Bible Protestant Fellowship.

    He had been employed for 32 years as a teacher at the Sussex Middle School and had retired in 2000. King also had worked at Boot Mark Realty and Century 21 Lazicki Real Estate Office in Wantage for many years and also had earlier worked as a writer for the New Jersey Herald.

    He had been a former member of the Lafayette Federated Church as well as the Milford Bible Church. King led non-denominational church services at the Lake Wallkill Community Center in the 1970s, led services at St. Paul’s Bible Church in Pine Island, N.Y., was a member of the High Point Board of Education in the 1980s, and was a certified Master Gardner by the Rutgers Cooperative Extension.

    He was predeceased by his brother, Bob from PA.

    King is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley A. King; two sons, David King and his wife Brittany of Wantage and Daniel King and his wife Debbie of Wantage; daughter, Debbie Yakaboski and her husband James of Shahola, Pa.; brother, Richard King and his wife Avis of Southington, Conn.; his sister, Betty Keeton and her husband Al of Georgia; 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

    Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements made by Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to the Slavic Gospel Association, 6151 Commonwealth Drive, Loves Park, IL 61111 or Camp Berea, 69 Berea Road, Hebron, NH 03242.
