Harold Gardner Vehslage
Harold Gardner Vehslage, 86, of Vernon Twp. died unexpectedly at Morristown Medical Center, Morristown on April 27, 2013.
Born to Harry and Caroline Vehslage in Irvington, where he was raised and then spent some time in Houston, Tex. before moving to the Scenic Lakes section of Vernon Twp., 43 years ago.
Vehslage served with the United States Navy during WWII aboard the USS Hanson and then worked as a mail carrier and then a window clerk for the United States Postal Service in Parsippany, for many years and then worked as a custodian for the Sussex Board of Education for 10 years before retiring.
He was a member of the Sussex First Baptist Church and enjoyed golfing, bowling and being an avid Dallas Cowboy fan.
Vehslage is survived by his wife of 60 years Margaret “Jane” Vehslage of Scenic Lakes; children John Vehslage of Scenic lakes and Randy Vehslage of Sykesville, Md.; siblings Helen Settle of Houston, Tex., Howard Vehslage of Irvington, Robert Vehslage of Montclair and Richard Vehslage of Montclair; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
The family will receive their friends at Ferguson Funeral Home, 27 Third Street, Sussex on Friday, May 3 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 4 at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Cremation will be private.
