VERNON —At Monday night’s council meeting Vernon councilman Brian Lynch urged attendees to take notice of their volunteers and thank them for their service before it’s too late.

A moment of silence was held at the beginning of the meeting out of respect for those that died in the Boston Marathon bombings and those lives lost as a result of the plant explosion in Texas. Lynch, a Highland Lakes volunteer fireman, spoke about the subject that is “near and dear to my heart.”

He asked anyone that sees a volunteer to let them know they're appreciated. He said that eight out of the 14 that died in West, Texas, were either firefighters or EMS volunteers. “The bread and butter of every township is its volunteers," said Lynch.
