Drug disposal day and drop boxes available in Sussex County

| 23 Apr 2013 | 05:53

There will soon be several options that the county has for disposing of unwanted, expired and unused medications.

Participating with the twice-yearly national effort, Andover Police Department, Byram Shop Rite, Hamburg Police Department, The Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority in Lafayette and Newton Shop Rite will be hosting as drop off areas for prescription drug disposal from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.

In addition to these county-wide sites, the following police departments have permanent disposal boxes open 24/7 all year long: Hopatcong Police Department, New Jersey State Police Sussex Barracks, Augusta, Newton Police Department, Sparta Police Department, and Vernon Police Department.

Community members are encouraged to dispose of all unwanted medications at any of these sites.

Appropriately disposing of medications ensures that not only are our environment and waterways safe from this chemical harm, but, most importantly, it also ensures that prescriptions do not end up in the hands of those they were not intended for and are not abused by anyone.
