Space Farms Zoo plans Jr. Zookeeper's Day

| 15 Jul 2014 | 03:24

Jr. Zookeeper’s Day at Space Farms Zoo will be on Saturday, July 19.

Giant tortoises, deer and elk fawns, and buffalo calves will be studied by the Jr. Zookeepers this year. Informational chats about the bears at Space Farms and wild bears near their homes will give safety tips to the youngsters. Jr. Zookeepers also will watch Tiger Lily, a 1-year-old tiger cub, will receive a bottle and her training. This ‘wildly’ anticipated day is focused for children aged 5 to 15 years old and starts at noon.

Parker Space will give his lecture on snakes. Zoologist Lori Space Day will guide activities through out the day. Jr. Zookeeper Day concludes at 3 p.m. with ’graduates’ receiving a Junior Zookeeper Certificate. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

“This is my favorite day of the year,” Space Day said. “The day I get to share the joy of my world! The amazing look on kids’ faces as a 200-pound yearling tiger drinks a baby bottle of milk is priceless.”

Space Farms Zoo and Museum is located at 218 Route 519 in Sussex and is open daily from May 1to October 31. Admission prices are $15.50 per adult, $11 per child and $14.50 per seniors. Group rates, birthday parties and season passes are available. For more information, call Space Farms at 973-875-5800 or visit the website at www.spacefarms.com.
