Dane Walker, 18, of Highland Lakes has become the 34th Eagle Scout of Boy Scouts Troop 912 in Vernon.

He was a Scout for eight years before achieving the highest rank in Scouting.

His Eagle Scout project was for Vernon Township Fire Department Company #1.

He remodeled the area by the flagpole, using 6-by-6 pieces of pressure-treated wood to echo the shape of the Maltese cross, a symbol of the fire service.

Walker filled in the area with red and white stones and incorporated fire hydrants donated by the fire department.

McAfee Hardware, Kuiken Brothers and Valley Mason were among the supporters of the project.

Walker is a senior in the allied health program at Sussex County Technical School in Sparta. He would like to be a physical therapist.
